The month of January has been filled with rigorous building and planning since the FIRST STEAMWORKS game reveal while still maintaining a presence in community outreach.

FRC Kickoff
Even in the face of inclement weather, icy road conditions, and all after-school activities being canceled at Grady, G3 team members still met at nearby houses and held a group video call, having a productive kickoff weekend! It has now been roughly three weeks of diligent and dedicated work of students and mentors who are preparing for the first upcoming district qualifier in Gainesville.

DFG Kickoff and First Flight Test
The following weekend after FRC Kickoff, G3 Robotics announced the 2017 game for middle school teams competing in Drones for Good! G3 read the rules, went over kits and had a special guest pilot demonstrate as well! Not only that, but G3 held a day for competitors to practice their first prototypes on January 28, 20
17.
Thank you Motorola Futures Grant that funds this great program!

Georgia Tech STEM Fest
Simultaneous with the DFG Kickoff event, some G3 members were also at Georgia Tech for the Atlanta STEM Fest! Students ranging from elementary to high school were able to enjoy hands on activities that incorporated exciting science, technology, engineering and math. G3 provided FLL kits and programming computers to rotating groups who briefly experienced how to build and design a small EV3 robot!

Flying into the Future
Partnering with the Chattahoochee Nature Center, G3 was the only local student club that presented in the Flying into the Future STEM event! On January 15, 2017, GA Tech, Atlanta Audubon, and the Chattahoochee wildlife department exhibited a flighted birds of prey show while G3 taught kids how to use drones.

Mary Lin Elementary Science Night
On January 24, G3 went to Mary Lin for a fun robot demo and and a discussion about how to get involved in STEM at an early age! We had a great time and can't wait for the next one.

Georgia Capitol
On January 26, G3 traveled to the Georgia Capitol where we met with senators and representatives of the Georgia legislature to discuss efforts in incorporating coding and programming at the elementary and middle level.

ChickTech Event
On January 28-29,  a group of female G3 members collaborated with GA FIRST and ChickTech ATL to change the future for the girls who came that weekend. In only a small amount of time, we taught how to build a ROVER bot and gave each one a specific task to accomplish in the FLL game.

One last important, honorable mention is that during school last week, G3 presented at Eighth Grade Day where we sought to briefly show the value of STEM and robotics. All in all, January has been an intense, but fruitful month and we are excited to see what February will hold.

Also next Saturday, G3 will have a Habitat for Humanity build! This is a great volunteer experience helping to build affordable houses. If you are interested in signing up, click here.
